RE: PRIVATE ACCOMMODATIONS – 2025 WILDFIRE EVACUATION CLAIMS
Please be advised we will be disbursing PRIVATE ACCOMMODATIONS claims for eligible applicants that applied in March 2026. There are a few things that we would like to disclose for eligibility and disbursement details:
- ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: EVACUEE(s) who were mandatory evacuated can claim Private Accommodation, if:

- They stayed with family/friends in the city – number of nights & individuals(dependents) are required to determine the claim amount.

- INELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: EVACUEE(s) cannot claim Private Accommodations, if:

- They have a leased property in the city prior the mandatory evacuation – including any people/dependents living there.
- They personally paid for their own hotel or AirBNB – they may instead be eligible for reimbursement for their documented accommodation expenses at full amount.

- DISBURSEMENTS: FARHA Finance has work with Local Coordinators with the approved disbursement and the Private Accommodation claims are disbursed directly to eligible evacuees;

- Per Indigenous Service Canada program policies – payment cannot be issued directly to the accommodator/host as it is the evacuees’ responsibility to compensate their accommodator/host.
- FARHA’s office will not be releasing cheques on behalf of the communities. Local coordination will be required for the distribution of all cheques to evacuees.

This disbursement will be on a basis of Medical Services’ Private Accommodation Reimbursement Claim. To evacuees receiving this claim, please compensate your accommodator/host. The Chiefs of Island Lake Anisininew region are aware of this disbursement. As for the date of disbursement, it will be sent to local coordinators this Friday, October 2nd, 2026.
